After early testing and experimentation, it was clear that accommodating different sized fruits would be problematic, as well as dealing with; skin, seeds, and pulp
Various ideas were generated to explore different ways of magnifying user input to juice fruit more efficiently. Focus was also placed on the findings generated from user and competitor testing
A concept was settled on that used a pivoting hinge to maintain a more vertical, and therefore more effective press. Usability features were also being explored at this stage
Multiple prototypes were used to improve and optimise the press and hinge. This took place alongside visual development which also aimed to reinforce the overall structure
Incremental improvement was made over multiple off tool samples, particularly concerning fits and tolerancing
Exit flow was optimised through an internal spiral generated from the fruit retaining ribs. The outlets were carefully designed to access all areas of the fruit, whilst the integrated foot also prevented pip release.
Further focus was placed on maximising the efficiency of the swinging hinge, whilst ensuring durability and ease of use
The synergy of the various functional & usability features has resulted in a product that addresses the constraints of the brief particularly well
The product is now in production and performing well commercially; it has been a successful addition to the brand, and has allowed category expansion as required
