It was vital that each SKU met the following criteria in each category: exhibit multiple technology features that enhance functionality, have a distinctive and female friendly form/design features, be comfortable in use and offer support/durability in high load/wear areas, allow variation in visual execution via coloured midsoles/outsoles
Initial research focused on the behaviour of the foot when in motion, Particularly; load paths, pressure maps, injury prevention, and support vs flexibility. This then informed the development of the sketchwork and ideation.
The selected concepts were then developed further in respect to their specific functionality. This involved dictating the treads, patterns, channels, and materials needed in each area to maximise performance.
3D data was analysed prior to producing woodcuts of the outsole geometry.
This allowed depths and contours to be refined as well as being used for initial market feedback. These were invaluable in finalising the detailed design prior to tooling.
Each outsole was tweaked during the off-tool stages to address any issues, the range was then released in a variety of specifications. They have been positively received and continue to sell well as a good-better offering in the marketplace.
